YOLANDA J. SARMIENTO
EL MONTE PROMISE FOUNDATION PROJECT COORDINATOR
Ms. Sarmiento is the Project Coordinator for El Monte Promise Foundation. Born and raised in Whittier near Rio Hondo College, her background in community and academic work includes being a Teacher’s Assistant, LAUSD volunteer Grant Writer, Foster Youth Tutor, and Hermanas Unidas de Long Beach (HAU Inc.) Community Service Chair advocating academics, networking, and community service for Latinas in college. She has also facilitated the Latina Connection Conference, presented her literary research on Latina adversity for the CSULB Comparative World Literature Conference, and was invited to present her writing at Harvard University’s American Comparative Literature Association Conference.
Ms. Sarmiento has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Comparative World Literature & Classics at California State University Long Beach, a Minor in Chicano-Latino Studies, and Certificate in Technical & Professional Communication. She is a devoted reader.
