Class of 2020 graduation banners now displayed throughout the cities of El Monte, South El Monte, and Rosemead
1,800 high school graduates are honored by community members in the El Monte region
EL MONTE — The El Monte Promise Foundation (EMPF) and El Monte Union High School District’s (EMUHSD) Class of 2020 donation campaign received $5,000 from 54 community donors and effectively funded 400 graduation banners that recognize El Monte Union’s Class of 2020 graduates.
EMPF and EMUHSD worked in partnership with local cities – including Rosemead, El Monte and South El Monte – to support the display of banners throughout our communities that recognizes approximately 1,800 individual graduates from Mountain View, Arroyo, Rosemead, El Monte, South El Monte, and Fernando R. Ledesma high schools.
The Class of 2020 donation campaign was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that halted many graduation ceremonies across the nation. EMPF wanted to recognize EMUHSD graduates’ achievements during this trying time and believes banners are a great way to honor the community’s next generation of leaders.
Community members can view the graduation banners that are placed on street lights within District boundaries and near each high school.
“We are proud to promote this city-wide celebration for our students and encourage our school community to honor our graduates, who have had to put so many graduation festivities on hold,” said EMPF Executive Director Jennifer Cobian, who spearheaded the initiative.
“This is just one small way to celebrate our seniors together.” “On behalf of our students, I want to thank our city partners for their generous support and hope that our community can join us in this wonderful endeavor to recognize a class of resilient students,” Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said. “Although the Class of 2020 cannot participate in a traditional graduation ceremony just yet, donations can support our students and recognize their great accomplishments.”
El Monte Promise Foundation is continuing their community-driven initiatives by raising funds to support students’ paths to higher education.
